Case shines globally
Time magazine ranks CWRU among the world’s top universities
The world knows of Harvard, Yale and maybe Cal. Case Western Reserve just moved nearer to that spotlight. Time magazine’s first rankings of the best universities on Earth places CWRU at No. 33 — out of some 2,000 schools surveyed.
University leaders applauded a ranking that they believe reveals several of Case’s strengths. While university rankings typically look at prestige, reputation and admissions criteria, Time editors took a different tack to produce its list of “The World’s Top Universities.”
Working with a German data analytics firm, Statista, Time examined indicators of student success after graduation, such as patenting of inventions, or becoming business leaders. It sought to ascertain “where students are likely to achieve the greatest success and contribute most to society.”
Time ranked CWRU No. 25 in the initial list released Jan. 28. After a recalculation of the data, CWRU stood at No. 33 globally as of April 8 — and No. 23 in the United States.
“We’re honored to receive this distinction, especially in the year in which we’re celebrating our 200th anniversary,” CWRU President Eric Kaler said in a statement. “Our faculty and staff are deeply invested in preparing students not just for their first job, but for lives of impact — advancing knowledge, strengthening communities and addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.”
