A message from Dean Venkataramanan “Ragu” Balakrishnan

A season to celebrate

A dean sees a school of engineering that connects to the outside word, driving industry innovation and workforce development.

Dear alumni and friends of the Case School of Engineering,

As we welcome a new academic year, campus is abuzz with the arrival of the Class of 2028. Like the classes before them, these new students bring diverse ideas and an enthusiasm for engineering that promises to energize our entire community. Through them, we see the future of engineering take shape.

Meanwhile, Case Quad is also taking shape with major developments for the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building (ISEB) and the opening of new classrooms, offices, and study spaces in the Olin Building. These physical changes reflect our ongoing dedication to staying at the forefront of engineering education and research, giving our students and faculty the space they need to make discoveries that have a profound impact on the world.

This year offers a lot to celebrate — notably, achievements of alumni like you. Our alumni continue to set an incredible example of what it means to live the mission of a Case Engineer. Your accomplishments make us proud, especially this year’s Case Alumni Association award winners.

Among these distinguished individuals, I am especially delighted to recognize Dr. Kenneth R. Lutchen, former interim provost and longtime dean of the College of Engineering and now Senior Advisor to the President for Strategy and Innovation at Boston University, as the alumni association’s Gold Medalist. I have been grateful for the wisdom Ken has shared with me when I assumed the role of Charles H. Phipps Dean of the Case School of Engineering. His exemplary career and contributions to the field of engineering serve as an inspiration to us all.

Homecoming is not just a time to celebrate our achievements, but also to reconnect with our past. I encourage all of you to return to campus Nov. 14-17, relive your memories and witness the exciting changes firsthand.

Your support is an essential piece of our continued success. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the Case School of Engineering. Together, we will continue to innovate, inspire, and shape the future of engineering.

Best regards,
Venkataramanan “Ragu” Balakrishnan
