A message from Dean Venkataramanan “Ragu” Balakrishnan

Building an even stronger School of Engineering

Dear alumni and friends of the Case School of Engineering,

Recent years have been ones of significant growth. Brick by brick, we’ve continued to build upon the Case School of Engineering’s 140-year legacy of groundbreaking and cutting-edge discoveries, a legacy that motivates and challenges us today.

In 2022, our faculty were recognized with a number of prestigious awards to pursue research in areas that include human performance and resilience, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, advanced materials, and more. The awards continued into 2023 when the announcement was made that the university would break ground on the Case Quad’s largest building project — the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building (ISEB) — a more literal sense of growth that will create a space where collaborations among the leaders of that research can thrive.

Now, as we enter 2024, I can confidently expect that this year will hold a similar sentiment — one of continued growth and meaningful steps forward. To maintain the momentum, we are preparing to lay many new bricks. We will continue to hire top faculty talent. New faculty members will join a cohort of 30 individuals who have been hired since 2020. We will graduate a class of engineers who will enter the job market prepared with tactical knowledge and hands-on experiences that meet industry needs. These soon-to-be alumni will join a network of thousands of Case engineers, expanding the mark of our school on the world. And we will maintain community partnerships, using engineering to create an impact for the neighborhood we live in and beyond.

Our momentum comes from a steadfast dedication to our mission and unwavering support from you — our alumni and friends. Thank you for all that you do for the Case School of Engineering. Together, brick by brick, we are building a better future.

Best regards,
Venkataramanan “Ragu” Balakrishnan
