Hello, and thank you
A dean sees a school of engineering that connects to the outside word, driving industry innovation and workforce development.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility that I write to you today as the Interim Dean of the Case School of Engineering. This institution has played an instrumental role in shaping my academic and professional journey, and it is an honor to now serve in this new capacity.
My connection to Case Western Reserve University began as a graduate student in the Department of Physics, where I first experienced the academic rigor and research excellence that define this community. These values guided me through a rewarding transition to the faculty of what is now the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering. This path—spanning disciplines and driven by curiosity—mirrors the interdisciplinary spirit that is so fundamental to our school’s mission and identity.
That interdisciplinary spirit grew more vibrant and impactful during Dean Balakrishnan’s tenure. Under his leadership, the Case School of Engineering has strengthened its position as a leader in research, education, and innovation, while deepening its partnerships across the university and the broader community. I want to express my sincere appreciation to Dean Balakrishnan for his dedication, insight, and the momentum he has built for the school.
As I step into this interim role, I do so with a profound commitment to sustaining and advancing the work we’ve begun—supporting our students, empowering our faculty, and engaging our alumni and partners in meaningful ways. This is a time of transition, yes, but also a time of opportunity: to build on our strengths, to reimagine our future, and to do so together.
To our alumni, your continued connection to the Case School of Engineering is a cornerstone of our success. Your achievements inspire current and future students, your support enables cuttingedge discoveries, and your perspectives help shape the path forward. I look forward to deepening our engagement in the months ahead, and to hearing your thoughts and ideas as we continue building a school that is not only of the highest caliber—but also truly reflective of the values we share.
Thank you again for all that you do for our community. I am honored to serve our alma mater, and I look forward to what we will accomplish together
Warm regards,
Christian A. Zorman
