New CAA officers elected
Frank Merat becomes president of the Case Alumni Association
Frank Merat ’72, MS ’75, PhD ’78, is the new president of the Case Alumni Association following action by the board of directors in June. He began his two-year term July 1.
Merat, a longtime associate professor in the Case School of Engineering, succeeds Brian Casselberry ’95, who moves to the position of immediate past president.
Merat previously served as vice president of the board of directors, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. As president, he leads the oldest independent alumni association of science and engineering graduates in the nation. With about 30,000 members, the CAA supports scholarships, fellowships, laboratories, and programs that strengthen the Case School of Engineering and the math and sciences at CWRU.
“I hope to continue and increase the many interactions between our alumni and also with our alumni-to-be, our students,” Merat said. “With the university celebrating its bicentennial next year, I also want to increase the recognition of the school, its alumni, and the accomplishments of its alumni.”
He expressed confidence in his fellow officers.
“They have long histories of working in the CAA and are strong supporters of the CAA,” Merat said. “I have worked with all of them and look forward to working with them over the next two years.”

Hillary Emer ’07, MSE ’07, 2nd vice president
